The well preserved example of a costly American Foursquare home at 419 S. Walnut St. was built in 1925 for mortician Frank J. Schreiter. Schreiter, born in 1874, was he son of Frank Schreiter, born about 1844, owner of Schreiter & Bretschneider furniture business. Frank Joseph started out as a clerk but eventually joined his father in the furniture and undertaking business.

Neither is to be confused with cigar maker Frank Schreiter, born about 1868.
