410 W. Prospect Ave.
Street number prior to 1925: 930 Prospect

On this site in the 1860's a home was built by pioneers John Smudde and his wife Anna. John was possibly Appleton's first miller and Anna ran a confectionary on College Ave. Their daughter, Mary Slattery and her husband Frank built the present home in 1908. During a remodeling a menu from the family's ice cream and candy business was found in the walls and returned to its hiding place. In 1925 the founder of Kaukauna Club Cheese and developer of the cold pack cheese, Hubert Fassbender, lived here.
