George Walter

George Walter built the Romanesque home at 321 S. Walnut St. in 1890 for him and his wife Mary.

In 1873 George Walter emigrated to America from Wurtemburg, Germany finding work at the Pabst Brewing Co. in Milwaukee and a leading brewery in Whitewater. In 1885, just twelve years after arriving in this land of opportunity, George Walter became the sole proprietor, first renaming his growing business the Star Brewery.

George Walter's brewery was located where the Appleton Police Station now stands on the southeast corner of W. Lawrence and S. Walnut St.

George's son Edgar Walter eventually moved to Eau Claire where he founded the Walter Brewing Company.
