In the late 1890's and into the 20th century this spot was the home of the Jacob J. Hauert family.
This news item from the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern, December 21, 1892 tells of a family reunion in this home:
"A very pleasant family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hauert at Appleton Sunday night. The occasion was the first time the family had met together in seventeen years and that it was a delightful event enjoyed by both parents and children goes without saying. The family consists of Mr. and Mrs. Hauert and seven children two of whom, Matthew, and Katie reside in this city."
Nearly ten years later Mr. and Mrs. Hauert would celebrate their golden wedding anniversary here.
