The Tennie family were the first owners of the home at 335 W. Sixth St. Henry worked as an insurance agent until 1897 when he became a cigar maker. His wife Katie worked at millinery. Henry's brother Carl, founder of Tennie's Jewelry in Appleton, rented the upstairs of the home.

The May 17, 1928 Appleton Post Crescent ran an article about the 52nd wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schuetter. It mentioned the guests at the celebration who had also celebrated their 50th wedding anniversaries. Among them was Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tennie.
