This Italianate/Colonial Revival home was built in 1877 by local contractor Henry Hoffman for Nicholas Weiland and his wife Margaret. Nicholas Weiland had been a resident of Appleton since 1860. Their daughter Margaret Elizabeth married Charles Baldwin, heir to the Baldwin estate at 707 S. State St. An orchard west of the home is now the site of the house next door, 411 W. Sixth St.

The 1925 city directory has Celestine J. Garvey, William J. Ferron and Rudolph Wallin living here. The Garvey family has occupied the home since then.
