The Hickey Family

The name Hickey appears in the 1887 Appleton city directory. At that time there were four in the family: Daniel, a blacksmith; James, a laborer; and Annie and Mary, paper folders. The family lived at "rear s. s. [south side] 4th, 1 e. of State" which appears to be the home that was on the corner of Jackman and Fourth (below.) This home is no longer there.

In 1889 Daniel, Annie and James lived at 527 W. Sixth St. By 1892 the family consisted of Daniel, Annie, James, Elizabeth Lizzie) and Mary and in 1893 Margaret was added. By 1896 the expanded Hickey family, Daniel, Annie, Elizabeth, Margaret, James and Mary was living next door at 531 W. Sixth St. They still lived here in 1897-1898 when James was replace by Michael.
