The house that stood on the southwest corner of Walnut and Sixth streets was the home of architect Thomas O'Keefe. O'Keefe designed the current St. Mary's church on S. State St., built in 1874.

The family lived in this home as early as 1880: Thomas Sr. and Jr., wife Mary, David, Maggie, Mary, Edward, Katie and William. In 1889 the men were listed in the city directory as "practical millwrights and draughtsmen, and agts" for Thomas O'Keefe and Sons. By 1930 the resident was Edward's son Elmer C. O'Keefe.
