The date of construction of this large commercial building is given as approximately 1900 in the city real estate records. The address does not appear in the 1925 Appleton city directory.

The Appleton city directories from 1884-1889 have a saloon run by the Heintz family on the northeast corner of State and Eighth where this building now stands. It's unlikely it is the same building because of the small footprint on the 1889 map (below).
